The Bonsai Society of the Carolinas 2001 Every Member Show was held on May 12 and 13 at the Black Lion in Pineville. More than 300 area residents took time to enjoy this year's second annual member show. The society staged a show and judging competition specifically open to all members of the society at all levels. This year's show was expanded from a one day to a two day event and as a result. We had 18 club members to bring trees. Club president, Bob Wymer stated "I am really pleased about the number of members who supported their club by exhibiting trees." This year's show can only be classified as a rousing success. Fourteen prize awards were given to club members trees in each of three categories: beginner, intermediate and advanced. There were also a number of trees which were entered in the "for exhibit only" category. "We also owe a special debt of thanks to Ken Duncan and John Geanangel who volunteered to serve as judges for the show and drove all the way from Columbia, SC, to do so," Bob said. "They did a great job and we appreciate their help in making the show such as success." Shown in the above photo is Mike Brawley with his very large saikei planting which won first place in the Advanced Division. This tree took four large men to bring in and set up.
